Le città sono chiaramente l'esempio scientifico di modello sociale anti-ecologico, e direttamente antagonista alla realizzazione di una biocenosi armonica con le altre specie vegetali e animali.
Le protospecie culturali sono difatti incapaci di coscientizzare il proprio rapporto con la natura, e agiscono non più come entità complementari, ma bensì come alternative surrogate.
Dunque le protospecie culturali, non essendo delle reali specie umane, creano habitat sostentativi non autonomi (nessuna città potrebbe sopravvivere senza le campagne attorno e altrove) posizionati *sopra* la natura anziché *nella* natura.
